Time Well Spent

Apostle Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us something very true and helpful in Ephesians 5:15–16. He says, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

The thrust of that text is that you and I should to make the best use of our time. The truth of matter is that we only have so much time. Our time is limited. Our days are numbered. Our time is short. And in this limited time, we have a hundred things pulling us in different directions, eating up and occupying our time. So we must make the best use of our time.

That’s especially true because the days are evil. What he means, I believe, we live in a world that is full of wickedness, and we are easily influenced toward it, which would be an absolute waste of our time. Sin is a very poor use of our time.

But it’s not just the evil things that we have to be leery of when it comes to our time. It is also the less than best things. There are so many things vying for your time, and many of them are good but not the best. That’s why we need wisdom, wisdom not only to stay away from the things that are evil but also things that are just not the best.

And I pray that you and I would discern what is best so that we can best use of our short time, so that when we stand before God, God says, “That was time well spent.”

Change begins in you!
