If there was one thing I loved as a boy, it was professional wrestling. I grew up in the days of Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant, Jake the Snake, the Macho Man Randy Savage, and the Ultimate Warrior, just to name a few. Man, I would get so stoked for WrestleMania and other events. Of course, it was all scripted, but I didn’t know it at the time. I was totally into it from the opening bell to the closing count as the men wrestled each other to victory.

Did you know realize that you and I are in a wrestling match every single day? Not like the WWF or the WCW with physical opponents. No, we are in spiritual wrestling match. The Holy Spirit tells us in Ephesians 6, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” That means that we have real, massive, and tough opponents. We can’t see them, but they are there wrestling with us, and so we wrestle back. We are in a battle with these dark forces. It’s what might be called spiritual warfare.

And since these are spiritual forces, conventional defense and weapons won’t do. As Pastor Paul said yesterday, we have to put on the whole armor of God. Only then will we be able to stand firm and be victorious in this wrestling match.

Otherwise, the devil and his army, like Hulkamania, will run wild on you! You better put on the whole armor of God.
