What is your greatest need? If you had asked the paralyzed man in Matthew 9, he would likely have said being able to walk again was his greatest need. Being lame had undoubtedly made his life incredibly difficult. So, he and his friends worked a plan to get him to Jesus for healing.

But upon arrival, instead of focusing on his paralysis, Jesus focused on his spiritual need first. Seeing his faith, Jesus said, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” And then, after some further interaction, Jesus finally turned to his physical need and healed him, saying, “Rise, take up your bed and go home.”

Beloved, what is your greatest need? Your greatest need is being forgiven. That’s way more important than any of your physical needs. It’s even more important than the air you’re breathing right now.

Before you seek anything else in this world, seek to have your sins forgiven by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Hate your sin, ask God to forgive you, put your hope in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and receive him as your Savior and Lord today!
