There’s a really interesting statement in Galatians 6:11. Apostle Paul suddenly draws attention to his handwriting, “See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand.” By this stage in his life, Paul commonly used an amanuensis, a secretary who wrote as Paul dictated. But here at the close of Galatians, Paul personally takes the pen. Why? Because the truth of the gospel was under attack, and the urgency was too great to remain distant.
There are moments when truth must become deeply personal. These letters were always Paul’s words, but in this moment, Paul was not content to communicate through someone else’s hand. He wanted the Galatians to feel his burden, his love, and his urgency. The large letters he pointed to must have felt as if underlined with passion, screaming, “DON’T ABANDON THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL!”
The gospel is never meant to be handled casually. Eternity is at stake. People are deceived, drifting, hurting, and perishing apart from Christ. Faithful Christians do more than speak generally about these truths. They personally invest in people to make sure they hear it clearly.
May we never become detached messengers of the gospel. May we care enough to personally take up the pen, enter the conversation, and lovingly pursue people with the truth of Christ.
Change begins in you!
