If you are a Christian, have you ever considered that how you live reflects on God? That’s absolutely true. Whether it’s fair or not, whether it’s right or not, people sometimes, maybe even oftentimes, judge our God based on what they see in us. And let’s be honest: sometimes we don’t reflect well on Him.
In fact, Paul rebuked the Jewish Christians in the city Rome. He wrote in Romans 2, “You who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking the law. For, as it is written, ‘The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.'”
What were they doing? Well, they weren’t practicing what they were preaching. They were rightly preaching that people shouldn’t steal, but they were stealing. They were rightly preaching that people shouldn’t commit adultery, but they were committing adultery. They were rightly preaching that people shouldn’t give their heart to idols, but they were giving their heart to treasures found in idol temples, even robbing those treasures from the temples. And because of their behavior, people in their community thought less of God because of them.
Beloved, may that never be said of us! May we strive to live out the teachings of Scripture. If people find fault with our life, may it not be because we fall short but because they fall short. May we let our light so shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven. Remember, you will likely be the only Jesus a person ever sees in this life. May you represent him well!
Change begins in you!
