Wednesday Is for Worship: “Your Grace Finds Me”

Wednesday-Is-for-Worship

I once was lost but now am found.  God’s grace found me.  I wasn’t looking.  He sought me out and found me.  That’s definitely worth celebrating this Wednesday!

This week’s worship song spotlight is on “Your Grace Finds Me.”  Written by Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman and published in 2013 by Said and Done Music, this song is beautiful both lyrically and musically.  Maybe it’s just my redneck roots, but that hint of banjo fills just puts it over the top for me!

The song focuses particularly on what has been called the common grace of God, or what I prefer to call the universal grace of God.  It’s common in the sense that it’s universally experienced by every person simply by being on the planet.  We experience it through a newborn’s cry, in sunrise and shadows.  It’s there in the greatest experience and the boring.  It’s there in marriage and in death, even in the air we breath.  It’s gloriously ubiquitous!

This universal grace of God is experienced equally by the rich and the poor, by the saint and the sinner, as Jesus told us in Matthew 5:45, “For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”  Undoubtedly, this universal grace was purchased at the cross of Christ because it’s only by God’s grace that a sinner experiences any good thing.

However, we must realize that the universal grace of God is not the fullness of the grace of God.  The fullness is only experienced when an individual repents and believes on Jesus.  The sad part is that so many folks have God’s universal grace lavished on them everyday and never turn in repentance, faith, and love to Jesus who makes it all possible.  And even sadder is the fact that one day, that universal grace will be removed in Hell.  Therefore, I pray this Wednesday that you would let God’s universal grace shown to you through creation drive you to Jesus Christ so that you can then experience the fullness of His grace forever.  Then and only then can you sing along with Matt Redman in full heart, “I’m breathing in Your grace forever!”

[VERSE 1:]
It’s there in the newborn cry

There in the light of every sunrise
There in the shadows of this life
Your great grace

It’s there on the mountain top
There in the everyday and the mundane
There in the sorrow and the dancing
Your great grace
Oh such grace

[CHORUS:]
From the creation to the cross
There from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me, yes your grace finds me

[VERSE 2:]
It’s there on a wedding day
There in the weeping by the graveside
There in the very breath we breathe
Your great grace

The same for the rich and poor
The same for the saint and for the sinner
Enough for this whole wide world
Your great grace
Oh such grace

[CHORUS]

[CHORUS 2:]
There in the darkest night of the soul
There in the sweetest songs of victory
Your grace finds me
Yes your grace finds me

Your great grace
Oh such grace
Your great grace
Oh such grace

[BRIDGE:]
So I’m breathing in Your grace
And breathing out Your praise
I’m breathing in Your grace
Forever I’ll be
