Mouth Like a Faucet

Let’s say that you have a guest over, and because you are a good host, you ask them if they would like something to drink. They say they would love a cold glass of water. And so, you grab a cup, put in some ice, turn on the faucet, and to your shock, brown, nasty water starts pouring out and fills up your glass. Would you give that gross glass of water to your guest? No way! That would be unloving, offensive, and unhealthy.

No, you’d only want to serve your guest fresh, clean, sparkling water because that is what’s good for them.

What about your mouth? Your mouth is kind of like a faucet. Water doesn’t flow out of it, but words do. Are your words dirty and nasty? Are your words filled with impurities and gunk? If so, you are serving that to the ears of the people all around you. And they are not the better for i.

The Holy Spirit tells us through Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5 to “Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.” Beloved, filthy, foolish, and crude talk coming out of mouth is like that brown, nasty water pouring out of that faucet. Instead of all that nasty, may thanksgiving flow out of our mouths. That’s like pure, crystal-clear, refreshing water flowing out of a faucet, and it blesses every who experiences it.

Change begins in you!
