Following Jesus isn’t always easy. One time this guy came up to Jesus in Matthew 8 and emphatically declared, “Jesus, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus responded in a way that said, that’s not always going to be easy. He said, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Another man came up and almost apologetically said, “Jesus, I really want to follow, but I don’t want to leave until I bury my daddy.” Jesus communicated back that following him isn’t always easy by saying, “Follow me, and let the dead bury the dead.”

Beloved, following Jesus isn’t always easy. It’ll take you to some uncomfortable situations and even away from people and places you love. In fact, following Jesus is what brought my family and me to Mississippi this year. We left behind many family and friends back in my hometown of Bowling Green, KY.

No, following Jesus isn’t always easy, but remember this: it’s always blessed. Follow Him wherever He leads you!
