As a father of five kids, I’ve heard the phrase “I’m hungry” or “I’m thirsty” innumerable times over the years. Sometimes it’s like, dude, we just got up from the table. You can’t be hungry. You can’t be thirsty.

But if my children were actually hungry or thirsty, I’d do everything in my power to make sure they were filled with good food and drink.

You see, that drive in the heart of a parent reflects the heart of our heavenly Father who longs to fill us with good things. Jesus promises in Matthew 5:5 that God will gladly fill to satisfaction those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

Is that what you long for, righteousness? Then God says, satisfaction guaranteed.
