As a pastor, I’ve done a lot of funerals and have witnessed some of the saddest moments you can imagine. Like the mom whose adult son had been run over by a train. In a moment of grief at the funeral, she literally tried to climb into the casket with her son. She was just broken with grief.

But what if we mourned over our sins as seriously? What if we were actually heartbroken over the moments we fall short of God’s glory?

Well, Jesus tells us we would be blessed if so. In Matthew 5:4, he says that God blesses those who mourn over their sin because there is comfort found in God. Through Jesus, you can be forgiven.

But before you ever be forgiven of your sin, you must first be broken over your sin. Blessed are those who mourn.
