Have you ever been in a situation that really raises your anxiety? Maybe you were about to take a test or your crazy family is coming in for the holiday or you just got some bad news? Jesus had just given his disciples some bad news. He was going to be with them only a little while longer, and as you might expect, they began to get fearful and anxious. But, Jesus spoke these words to them in John 16:33, I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Those words of encouragement are for us as well. Yes, there are going to be hard times, difficult times, times of tribulation, times that would cause fear and anxiety to rise in the heart of the typical person. But, we who are in Christ can AND SHOULD have peace.
Why? Because Jesus has overcome the world. Like light overcomes darkness, Jesus has overcome the world. He’s overcome our sin. He’s overcome death. He’s overcome the devil. The conquering light of Christ brings peace—peace of mind, peace with man, and peace with God. That babe in the manger is the Prince of Peace.
Merry Christmas! And thank God for light!
