The Fortified City of Wealth

What are some of the things you have in your life to protect you? Perhaps it’s your dog or your pistol. Maybe it’s your security system or your black belt in karate. There are a lot of things you could list, but have you ever thought about your wealth as a form of protection for you?
Proverbs 10:15 points to this reality. It says, “A rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.” Yes, wealth is a benefit to us, and poverty is a detriment to us.
I know many of heard growing up that money is the root of all evil, but that’s not what the Bible says. Jesus didn’t say that money is the root of all evil. He said that the love of money is the root of all evil. That’s a big difference.
And I know in today’s culture, you are supposed to feel embarrassed or guilty if you are wealthy and somebody else is not. The woke want you to have a struggle session over your “privilege.” But if you haven’t figured it out yet, that is foolish, ungodly thinking.
Wealth is a benefit to you, and you should do what you are able within the bounds of righteousness to build it. That’s what it means to be a good steward of the financial resources God has given you. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city.
You might be thinking, “I’ll never be rich.” That’s okay. I probably won’t be either. But we can both be wise with our money to build up resources so that fortify the city of our life and provide for our family and care for ourselves well throughout our days on this earth. Poverty is the ruin of the poor. May you be wise and avoid it!
Change begins in you!
