The Finish Line Is Coming

Every race has a finish line, and knowing it’s there changes how you run. Apostle Paul charges Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:13-16 to keep the commandment “unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.” That’s talking about Jesus’s second coming. That’s the finish line. We don’t let up or step down until we see Jesus face to face.
Well, when will that be? The text says “at the proper time.” In other words, Jesus will come whenever God has determined it’s best. We don’t know, but He does. And so, as we keep running, we run in faith, knowing that God is working His plan and will not send Jesus a day before the right time.
But that could be a long time. What will sustain us in our run until that point?
Well, we’re sustained by remembering who’s watching and who’s waiting for us at the finish line. It’s Jesus himself. Our text describes Him as “the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see.” Beloved, isn’t Jesus amazing?! And on that day, you will see Him face to face.
But until then, honor Him with your run. Run under His leadership, His dominion. The finish line is coming, and when you cross it, you will run right into the loving arms of Jesus.
Change begins in you!
