The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it, and they are safe.

I love that song! Did you know that it comes straight from the Bible, Proverbs 18:10? Doesn’t the Bible make for the best worship lyrics? I love singing God’s words back to Him.

Beloved, our God is a strong tower. When Proverbs was written, a strong tower was a place of safe refuge that was sturdily built and heavily fortified. Strong towers were built to hold large amounts of food and supplies. It was a place of safety and a place of provision. When an enemy attacked, the people of a village found protection and provision in the strong tower.

And that’s what our God is. He’s a place of protection and provision when the enemy comes at us. When we run to our God, we run to safety. Our God is all-powerful. Our God is all-faithful. Our God is all-loving. And He will be faithful to do everything in His love and power to shield us from any attack the enemy throws at us. The enemy is strong, but our God is stronger!

Beloved, in times of trouble, don’t stand out in the field defenseless. Turn and run to the strong tower of God. That’s what the righteous do. And when they do that, they are safe.
