As I child, I remember one of my greatest fears was losing my family and being left all alone. That’s a pretty scary thought for a child, isn’t it? But let’s be honest, it’s a pretty scary thought for an adult also.
In fact, Jesus’ grown-up disciples struggled with this fear, concerning His departure. Jesus knew His disciples’ hearts would break at His departure, and they would fear being alone. So He gave them—and us—a promise that changes everything in John 14: “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
Another Helper. Not a replacement, but One sent by Jesus—God Himself dwelling within us, the Spirit of truth who guides, comforts, convicts, and empowers.
Consider what this means: You are never alone. In your moments of greatest joy, the Spirit rejoices with you. In your darkest valleys, He intercedes with groans too deep for words. When you don’t know how to pray, He prays for you. When you lack wisdom, He illuminates Scripture. When you’re weak, He strengthens.
The world cannot receive this gift—it “neither sees him nor knows him,” according to John 14. But you who are saved do. He dwells in you. The very presence of God lives inside every believer, blessing us here and now and sealing us for eternity.
This isn’t theoretical theology; it’s a practical everyday reality. The Helper whom Jesus promised is with you through every circumstance, forever.
Today, thank God for this immeasurable gift—His constant, indwelling, transforming presence through the Holy Spirit.
Change begins in you!
