Looking for Life Among the Dead?

On that first Easter morning, we read in Luke 24 that some of the women who had followed Jesus came back with spices for His corpse. To everybody’s surprise, they got an empty tomb instead.
The angels who appeared there asked a pointed question: “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” That’s a question that hits us hard.
We do this more than we realize. We look for life in things that cannot give it: old habits, past relationships, hollow pleasures, dead religion. We keep returning to tombs, expecting something different.
But Jesus isn’t there. So, there’s no life there.
In that moment, the women had to reorient everything. The angels reminded them of what Jesus had already said. The resurrection was a surprise only to those who hadn’t been listening.
Peter ran to the tomb and saw the folded grave clothes. Luke says Peter went home marveling. John’s Gospel tells us he believed. And he never returned to the tombs again.
That’s the invitation for you today. You’ve been circling something dead long enough: a habit that promised life and delivered emptiness, a relationship that was never going to fill what only God can, a version of religion with no resurrection in it. Life is not found amongst death.
Jesus is risen, and He is alive. The empty tomb is your invitation to finally stop looking in all the wrong places. Stop seeking the living among the dead.
Change begins in you!
