Faith Like a Child: Peace

Today we continue the season of Advent under our theme “Faith Like a Child.” This Christmas as we celebrate the kingdom of Christ, Jesus himself said in Mark 10:15, Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. This morning we focus on the second purple candle, the Candle of Peace.

And to help us with our reading this morning is… a child. Reese, would you read John 14:25-27 for us?

Reese:  “I have spoken all these things while I am still with you. But the Father will send the Friend in my name to help you. The Friend is the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things. He will remind you of everything I have said to you. I leave my peace with you. I give my peace to you. I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be troubled. And do not be afraid.”

With all of the anxiety, hatred, and hostility in the world, peace is often talked about but seldom achieved. But, through Jesus, real peace, lasting peace can be yours.

Did you catch in John 14 that when talking about peace, Jesus twice called it “my peace”? The peace that Jesus experiences, the peace that Jesus possesses, the peace that Jesus produces, He promises to leave with those who follow Him and to give to those who trust in Him.

This Christmas may really experience the peace of God through Jesus Christ. Like a child who can sleep peacefully at night because they trust that they are provided for and protected, may you rest in the provision and protection of Jesus Christ and experience peace that surpasses all understanding. May this be a faith-filled Christmas!
