Throughout the Bible, we see many different descriptive names for God. One of the most important ones is Jehovah Jireh. That’s Hebrew for the Lord my provider. All throughout scripture, God proves over and over again that he will provide for his people. And as we might expect, we see that manifest in the life of Jesus. In Matthew 15, we see Jesus miraculously feeding a hungry crowd again.

Just one chapter before this and Matthew 14, we saw Jesus feed 5000 men plus the women and children. He did that with just five loaves of bread and two fish but here in Matthew 15 we see him do it again.

This time he had a little more to work with. He had seven loaves of bread and a few fish, which is to say more than two, but not a lot more. And this crowd was a little smaller, only 4,000 men and the women and children. But after giving thanks over that food, he began to distribute it among the disciples to share with the crowds, and everybody ate until they were satisfied. And just like before, he had leftovers. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces of bread that were uneaten.

What a beautiful demonstration of how God provides for his people. He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord my provider. What do you need? Beloved, my God can provide it. Go to him in faith and you will be satisfied.
