One year back about 15 years ago when I was pastor at a church in Tennessee, the Lord led me to organize our people to knock on the door of every house in our city. The city of Alexandria only has about 1,000 people in it. So, we just had a few hundred homes to hit. We called it “No Home Untouched.”

When we would knock on the door and they answered, we would introduce ourselves and explain what we were doing. Then we’d ask them if there was anything we could pray for them about. And then we’d transition to see if they were saved or not. We would typically ask, “Do you believe you will go to heaven when you die?”

And the answer that still stings in my ears today is, “I hope so.” You see, they weren’t sure. They didn’t know. There were obviously various reasons as to why they didn’t know, but whatever the reason was, they had no assurance of salvation.

Beloved, this idea of not knowing isn’t what God wants for you. God wants you to know for sure that you are going to heaven. In fact, the Holy Spirit said through Apostle John in 1 John 5:13, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Do you know that you are saved? Do you know that you are going to heaven? You certainly can know, and you should know. The key is Jesus. Put all of your hope in Jesus. Don’t put any of it in yourself. When all of your hope is in Jesus, you can be absolutely sure. Jesus plus something is nothing. But Jesus plus nothing is everything!
