CONNECT people to Christ and POUR into their lives His teaching so they'll OVERFLOW for the glory of God

An Invitation for All People: Hope

Today on the first Sunday of Advent, we light the first purple candle, the Candle of Hope.

We take our reading from 1 Peter 1:3–5, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

The human heart needs hope, and through Christ Jesus, God has given us the hope of salvation. This hope is not a might-happen hope. No, it is a guaranteed, bet your bottom dollar, no doubt about it, certainly will happen hope.

The Holy Spirit teaches us through Apostle Peter here that our hope in Christ Jesus is living, imperishable, undefiled, unfading, kept in heaven for us, and guarded by God’s omnipotence. Our hope couldn’t get more secure!

And all people on planet earth are invited to receive this great hope by receiving Christ Jesus as savior and lord. He came at Christmas to give us hope, and he did not disappoint.

And so, this morning we light the Candle of Hope. May Christ fill your hearts with hope this Advent season. From our family to yours, “Merry Christmas!”
