Won’t Quit Until Completion

Back in the year 1980, Joel Hemphill wrote a song and recorded it with his Gospel group The Hemphills. The lyrics went like this:
He’s still working on me; To make me what I need to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
‘Cause He’s still workin’ on me
That Gospel song over the years has kind of become a children’s song classic. It beautifully captures the reality that we are a work in progress under the good and patient hand of our God, as expressed in Philippians 1:6, where Apostle Paul by inspiration of the Holy Spirit says, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
We are indeed a work in progress. We live in that tension of “I ain’t what I used to be but also I ain’t yet what I’m going to be.” No, God has brought us a long way, but we still have a long way to go. And here’s the good news: He won’t quit until we’re complete.
And when will that be? We’ll be completed and perfected in the day of Christ Jesus, as Paul said. That means when we stand face to face with Jesus when go to Heaven or He comes back to Earth. The day we see Jesus is the day the work on us will be complete. Then, we be completely conformed to Jesus. We’ll be completely sanctified and made exactly what God made us to be.
I’m thankful God began a good work in me. And thankfully, He won’t quit until I’m complete. Just don’t mind the mess while He’s at work.
Change begins in you!
