Paul says something striking in Colossians 1:28-29: his whole goal is to “present everyone mature in Christ.” Not just saved. Not just attending church. Mature.
Think about that word—mature. When you picture a mature Christian, what do you see? Someone who looks more like Jesus. Someone who handles life’s chaos with grace. Someone who loves well, serves faithfully, and trusts deeply.
But here’s the thing: nobody gets there by accident. Paul says he’s “struggling with all his energy” to help people grow up spiritually. Maturity takes effort—both from us and from those helping us.
So what does that effort look like? Paul mentions warning and teaching. That means we need truth spoken into our lives, even when it’s uncomfortable. We need Bible teaching we can actually understand and apply. We need community where people know us well enough to see our blind spots.
And notice this—Paul’s doing this “with all the energy Christ so powerfully works” in him. Translation? We can’t mature all by ourselves. We need God’s power working in us. But, it must be our aim, our goal to mature and to grow.
So, here’s the real question: Are you actually trying to grow? Or are you coasting?
Change begins in you!
