One of my favorite shows over the years is “Forged in Fire.” It’s that show on The History Channel that is a blacksmith competition each episode. They are always making some kind of weapon. And one of the things I’ve noticed is that, a blacksmith doesn’t strike hot iron once and call it a sword. No, he strikes it again and again and again. Each blow shapes, strengthens, and refines that steel until something useful emerges.
In 1 Timothy 4, Apostle Paul tells Timothy to command and teach biblical truths, not once, but over and over again as a steady rhythm of ministry. Why? Because people need to hear over and over again. They are hard and dull and need to over and over again this trustworthy saying at the center of this passage: “We have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.”
We need to lovingly strike our people with that truth over and over again until Christ is formed in them. Beloved, faithful teaching isn’t just one and done information transfer. No, it’s repetition with conviction. It’s proclaimed truth again and again until what is true takes root.
People need to hear it Monday, not just Sunday. And every other day of the week. So, say it. Then say it again.
Change begins in you!
