We’ve been talking about what could be said in light of the amazing Golden Chain of Redemption found in Romans 8. We’ve already covered four of the five rhetorical questions: If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? Who is to condemn?
We now turn to the fifth and final rhetorical question, which is: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?”
When we were kids, we used to sing: Jesus loves me, this I know; for the Bible tells me so. Indeed, we know that God loves us deeply. He loves us so much that He gave His only-begotten Son to live on this earth and die on that cross so that whosoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. And because God has fixed His love on us and because that love has worked all of history to save us, our salvation is secure in that love.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Nobody. No thing. No situation. Tribulation can’t do it. Distress and persecution can’t do it. Famine and nakedness can’t do it. Danger or sword can’t do it. Even the devil and all of his demons can’t do it! Even when we face these things, the love of God is with us and helps us endure it so that the ultimate victory will be ours.
Beloved, in all these things, we are more than conquerors, We are overcomers because nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Praise God that He has fixed His love on His people and that His love in all of its fierceness and might endure forever. Beloved, that truth makes all the difference in the world!
Change begins in you!
