I mean, really, to call those people on Facebook your friends is quite the misnomer. Yes, some of them are, but most of them, you never talk to them. If you were to see them in public, you might not even recognize them as one of your friends. They are acquaintances at best.
A friend, a true friend, the Bible says, is somebody we know well and are tight with. We read in Proverbs 18:24, “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Man, that’s tight. You can count on them at all times, even in the bad times. If you have a friend like that, you have something that is highly prized.
But typically, to have a friend like that, you must be a friend like that. Is that the kind of friend you are toward some of the people in your life? Do you genuinely love and care for them? Are you open and authentic with them? Do you hang out together and do stuff together? Are you supportive and reliable? That’s what it takes to be a close friend.
Acquaintances will come and go. They’ll fall through and leave you stranded. But, a true friend sticks closer than a brother. May God bless you with an overflow of that kind of friendship!
Change begins in you!
