Have you found out in life that love makes all the difference? That’s why today’s word of wisdom from the book of Proverbs has me nodding, “Yes, and amen.” Proverbs 15:17, “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.” Isn’t that a creative and vivid way of saying that truth?!
Look, if I had a choice between eating a plate of herbs, like basil and rosemary or a big ol’ juicy ribeye, I’m choosing the ribeye every time. That’s the better meal by far.
But, what comes with the meal? If I have endure hate to eat that ribeye when I can experience love while eating basil and rosemary, give me the herbs because love wins every time. Give me basil and rosemary with an extra helping of love every time.
Now, we here in the South, if we were writing this proverb, might not make the comparison using herbs and a fattened ox. But we might say it this way: Better is eating low on the hog where love is than eating high on the hog and hatred with it.” I’d rather eat high on the hog, but more than that, I’d rather experience love. So, if love is found where you have to eat low on the hog, that’s where I want to be.
Beloved, this proverb just isn’t a truism we nod along with. It’s also a challenge. We need to create an atmosphere where people feel loved. Otherwise, we will drive them away. Love attracts, love sustains, and love wins. Choose to show love. Love makes all the difference.
Change begins in you!
