Back during World War 2, an American slogan regarding the war effort rose to prominence and is part of the common vernacular still today. The phrase is: loose lips sink ships. It was used on posters and created by the War Advertising Council. The idea was to encourage servicemen and women to guard their talk. The enemy was always listening, and nobody wanted to give away information that could help the enemy sink ships and kill Americans. How they used their lips was a matter of life and death.
Today’s Proverb speaks to a similar idea. Proverbs 10:21, “The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense.” People who use their lips righteously tend to do better in life. They sow blessing and reap blessing. People are attracted to them and trust them. They tend to be able to provide well for their family and feed many.
But fools, on the other hand, use their lips… well, foolishly. They don’t control their lips as they ought, and their loose lips sink their own proverbial ship.
Beloved, closely guard what you say.
Change begins in you!
