Jesus Is the Answer – Love

Advent - Jesus Is the Answer

This week we come to our final week of Advent, which is the Christian season of preparation for Christmas. Our theme this year is “Jesus Is the Answer.” This week we focus on love and take our Scripture from 1 Corinthians 13:1-3:

1  If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2  And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3  If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Reflection

There are lots of different ways to measure people. We can measure their height, weight, shoe size, hat size, and waist size. We can measure the pitch of their voice and the volume of their voice. We can measure how much they know about a subject. We can measure how much money they gave to charity in a given year. But, the Bible says that the greatest way to measure a person is by the measure of their love.

You see, a person can be outstanding physically and even do outstanding things, but if he is not outstanding in love, he’s really accomplished nothing. If he’s not outstanding in love, then he’s really not that outstanding.

Love is the greatest of actions. Yes, love is an action. It’s not just an emotion or words. You may tell somebody you love them, but unless you demonstrate it, it’s not really love.

God has told us He loves us, but more importantly, He has demonstrated His love for us. Not only did the Father send His only-begotten Son to take on flesh and dwell among us, He sacrificed His on the cross so that all who believe on Him will be saved. The manger and the cross are part of the same story, and both demonstrate God’s outstanding love for us.

And so we focus on love this week because Jesus Christ is the answer to the question: Does God love us? He most certainly does and has demonstrated it marvelously. We pray that all the world would experience the fullness of the love of God found through faith in Jesus Christ. And, we long for the lover of our soul to come visit us again. Therefore, we say to the Lord, “Come quickly, Lord Jesus!”
