Getting older can be rather discouraging as things stop working as they used to, and new problems arise. But hey, I just found something super encouraging in the Bible for you and me who have gray hair popping out. It says in Proverbs 16:31, “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.”
Isn’t that good news? Your gray hair isn’t just a sign that your youthfulness is gone. No, it’s a sign that you’ve been wise enough and blessed enough to make it this far. The Bible here says that it’s gained by a righteous life. And that’s true. Clean and righteous living helps a person live until they’re too old to die young.
In our culture where we want to do everything in our power to cover over our aging bodies, God says that gray hair is a crown of glory. It’s a symbol of wisdom. It’s a flag for respect. It’s an indicator that a life has been lived full of experience. It’s a gift from God. Therefore, it’s beautiful and worthy of dignity.
So, thank the Lord for your gray hair, even if you thank Him while your stylist covers it up!
Change begins in you!
