One of the best pieces of financial advice I ever heard was this: act your wage. In other words, live within your means. Act your wage. Dave Ramsey has been saying that for years. And you know where he got it? The Bible.
Listen to Proverbs 12:9, “Better to be lowly and have a servant than to play the great man and lack bread.” That’s saying it’s better to live like a poor man even though you are rich than to live like a rich even though you are poor. Why is the first one better? Because it can be sustained. A rich man can live like a poor man and be perfectly fine financially. He’s living within his means.
But, a poor man who lives like a rich man will face ruin because that kind of lifestyle will quickly run out. He’ll be in financial ruin in no time flat. He’s not living within his means. He’s not acting his wage.
Beloved, are you living within your means? Are you acting your wage? Very few Americans are. The typical American is almost $24,000 in debt, and that doesn’t even include their mortgage. It’s credit cards, cars, student loans, and personal loans. America itself isn’t living within her means. The current US debt is estimated to be $34 trillion dollars, give or take a billion or two. Beloved, this is not wise. It’s unsustainable.
The wise person acts their wage. May you be wise and begin to do so.
Change begins in you!
