These are stories of transformation, faith, and resilience. It’s usually celebrities like Tony Dungy, Phll Robertson, Clayton Kershaw, Carrie Underwood, Trevor Bayne, and Chip & Joanna Gaines, but it’s also everyday people who have experienced profound life changes.

At this point, they have made almost 200 of these white chair films. People in these videos typically finish their stories by stating, “I am second.” This declaration underscores the central theme of the movement: placing God and others before ourselves.

The idea for the title of this social media movement comes straight from the Bible, particularly Philippians 2:3–4, which says, “Do doing nothing from selfish ambition or vain glory, but with humility of mind regarding one another as more important than yourselves, not merely looking out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

A great way to sum up that teaching is simply to say “I am second.” God is before me. Others are before me. It’s a lifestyle rooted in humility, surrender, and servant-hearted living, looking to serve rather than be served.
