In the past year alone, I’ve had the privilege of traveling to several interesting destinations. I’ve been to Guatemala to share Jesus, to Niagara Falls (both the American and the Canadian side), to New Orleans, and to Indianapolis. Before the year is over, I plan to travel to Dallas, Texas in early summer and then, in late summer, fly into London, England to travel to a town called Kidderminster, just outside of Birmingham, to share Jesus again. These are all fascinating destinations, but they are just a few of the multitude of places we could go on planet Earth in this life.
But it’s crucial to grasp that after we die, that myriad of destinations is reduced to only two: Heaven or Hell. These are our only two options. The Holy Spirit, through Apostle Paul in 1 Thessalonians 5, conceptualizes these two destinations as wrath and salvation because that’s what will be experienced in those places. In Hell, you will experience forevermore the wrath of God, which is the outpouring of His righteous fury as punishment for your sin. But in Heaven, you will experience the salvation of God, which is the outpouring of God’s grace upon you, forgiving you of your sin, restoring your relationship with God, and blessing you forevermore.
Which of those two destinations sounds better to you? Salvation in Heaven, right? I mean, nobody wants to go to Hell. And everybody wants to go to Heaven. So, the question isn’t, do you want to go to Heaven? The real question is, do you want Jesus? You see, the Holy Spirit is very clear here in 1 Thessalonians 5: salvation is obtained only through the Lord Jesus Christ. Speaking about the way to Heaven, Jesus said of Himself in John 14, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” So, to obtain salvation and go to Heaven, you must turn from sin and ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord.
Beloved, there are only two destinations in the life to come: the wrath of Hell or the salvation of Heaven. Between the two, where are you going? The true answer depends entirely upon what you do with Jesus.
Change begins in you!
