But so much of that is just fantasy horror, things that have no bearing in reality. If you want to read something truly horrifying and truly real-life, look no further than 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12. There, it talks about the judgment of God falling on those who rejected the love of truth. And for that reason, God sends upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged, all those who did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.
That’s a scary passage. It’s essentially God sealing their fate. He’s saying, “You don’t want Me? You don’t want truth? You’d rather have unrighteousness? Then that’s what I’m going to give you. I’m going to give you all want and more.” And so, He punishes their rebellion by cementing them in their rebellion. It’s what Romans 1 calls being given over by God to sin. It’s like the punishment God proclaimed through Prophet Isaiah on a generation of the Israelites in Isaiah 6, “Go, and tell this people: ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not know.’ render the hearts of this people insensitive, their ears dull, and their eyes dim, lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and return and be healed.”
Beloved, what an absolutely horrifying thought! Listen, sin is nothing to be played with, and God at any moment could pass judgment on you. He doesn’t have to wait until you die. In your rejection, in your rebellion, in your love for unrighteousness, He could seal you in condemnation. So, I beg you, don’t ignore the opportunity the Lord is giving you. Don’t push Him away. Turn from sin and unrighteousness. Receive the truth, and embrace Jesus before God’s righteous judgment falls on you, and it will be everlastingly too late.
Change begins in you!
