Do you ever find yourself too busy to pray? Most of us say it, and it’s usually our first excuse.

But we should take a look at Jesus in Mark 1. The night before, the whole town had crowded His door. By morning, everyone was looking for Him. Yet the Bible says, “rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed,” (v35).

Jesus didn’t pray because He had time. He prayed because He had little time and great demands on him. He prayed because he needed clarity and empowerment. When He was done, he was fresh, charged, and ready to go do ministry in the next towns.

Martin Luther, one of the giants of church history from the 1500s, remarked, “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

Busyness shouldn’t be our excuse for skipping prayer. It should be our reason for prayer. The busier you are, the more you need Him. Prayer isn’t time taken from your work. It’s power for your work.

You’re too busy to not pray. So make space for it today.
