God tells us that wealth can help us in this life. For instance, Proverbs 10:15 says, “A rich man’s wealth is his strong city.” In other words, there’s earthly security in wealth.
But here’s what we always have to keep in mind: our wealth on this earth is of absolutely zero benefit for the life to come. Listen to what Proverbs 11:4 says, “Riches do not profit in the day of wrath.” In other words, your money and possessions will not save you from the wrath of God. God is not impressed with your wealth. God is not partial because you have a sizable portfolio. He’s not a crooked judge who can be bribed and bought off. No, your wealth will not benefit you after this life.
But what will benefit you? Well, let’s hear all of Proverbs 11:4, “Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.” Ah, did you hear what will benefit you when you stand before God? Not riches, but righteousness. Therefore, the wise person will pursue righteousness over riches every time.
In fact, to get into heaven, you must be perfectly righteous, and based on what you and I have done, we are hopeless in and of ourselves. But, thankfully, there is hope outside of ourselves. His name is Jesus. You see, through Jesus, you can be made perfectly righteous by turning from sin and trusting in Him. When you do that, you are not only forgiven of your sin but also credited with Jesus’s perfect righteousness. Only then will you escape God’s wrath and enter Heaven.
So, pursue righteousness over riches. How do you do that? It begins by pursuing Jesus.
Change begins in you!
