Rest: God’s Gift to You

We as human beings just get tired. I was so sleepy driving home the other day from my son’s football practice at like 6:30 PM that my eyelids felt like they weighed a hundred pounds. I could barely stay awake to drive. When I got home, I went straight to bed at like 7:00.
Maybe you know that kind of tired. It’s a very human experience, and that’s because you were made to rest. That’s how God created you and me.
In Mark 2, the Pharisees thought rules were more important than the person. So, when hungry disciples picked grain on the Sabbath to eat, they had an issue, saying the disciples shouldn’t have been working. Jesus reminded them of King David, who unlawfully ate the priests’ bread when he and his men were in need. Then Jesus delivered the punch, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath,” (v27-28).
Sometimes you just have to work on the Sabbath in order to survive. But as a general rule, we should lean into the rest God has provided us. Of course, we don’t have the Law of the Sabbath anymore in the New Covenant, but we surely have the principle. We rest spiritually in Jesus, and we rest physically when we grow tired. Rest is a gift God’s gift to you.
Quit running on empty, trying to prove something. Receive the gift of rest.
Change begins in you!
