CONNECT people to Christ and POUR into their lives His teaching so they'll OVERFLOW for the glory of God

Lean Not on Your Own Understanding

Have you ever been given what seemed to be an impossible task by somebody? Maybe life itself feels that way sometimes. As Abraham grew old, we read in Genesis 24 that he called his servant and laid on him what probably felt like an impossible task: go to my homeland and find the right wife for my son Isaac.

And so, off he went, and when he arrived, he did something we should all take note of. He prayed to God. In this impossible task, he was wise enough to realize he shouldn’t rely on his own discernment and ability. He wanted the Lord to choose this woman who would be Isaac’s wife. And so, standing by a well, he prayed specifically for God to reveal His choice through a clear sign, “Let the woman who offers water to me and my camels be the one.”

Before he finished praying, Rebekah appeared. She offered him water and watered all ten his camels, exactly as he had prayed. God’s answer wasn’t just clear; it was immediate and abundant.

This story teaches us that God delights in guiding those who seek Him faithfully. The servant didn’t pray vaguely or casually. He prayed specifically, watched expectantly, and recognized God’s answer when it came. Then he worshiped that very moment, giving God all the glory.

Beloved, when you need direction, follow this pattern: Pray with specificity. Ask God to make His will clear. Then watch carefully for His response. And when He answers, worship gratefully and act obediently.

The same faithful God who led this servant to the right woman in a far away land is ready to guide your steps today. The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” He sees your need. He hears your prayer. And He will answer when you seek His guidance faithfully.

Change begins in you!
