I heard the other day that a man robbed a bank in Meridian. Maybe even the same guy robbed that same bank twice. It blows my mind that people in 2023 still try to rob banks because you never get away with that much money and the authorities almost always catch you.
But regardless of the foolishness of robbing a bank, let me ask you a question: how many banks did that bank robber have to rob to be guilty of breaking the law? The answer is one time, right?
You see, guilt is not determined by how many times something has been done. Instead, it is determined by the sheer fact that it has ever been done. It only takes one bank robbery to be guilty of robbing banks.
The book of James, chapter 2 tells us the very same thing about sin in general. There, the Holy Spirit says, “For the person who keeps all the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws. For the same God who said, ‘You must not commit adultery,’ also said, “You must not murder.’ So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law.”
So, beloved, it takes only one sin to be guilty before God. It doesn’t matter how many times you did what was right. The question is, did you ever do anything wrong? And if you have, you are guilty before God and deserve condemnation forever in Hell. That’s what I deserve, and so does every sinner.
But God in His mercy has made a way for us to have our guilt removed by turning from our sin and trusting in Jesus. That’s the only way to be saved from the guilt of our sin.
Has that happened to you yet? If not, I beg you to turn to Jesus in repentance and faith before you stand before the judgment seat of God and it is everlastingly too late.
Change begins in you!
