Danger, Will Robinson!

Back in the 1960s, there was a popular TV show called “Lost in Space.” It was about a family with the last name Robinson who was commissioned to leave Earth to colonize a new planet. The main character on the show was a Robinson child named Will.
Like any good space drama, Will had a robot to help out and watch over him. Whenever some alien menace approached young Will, the Robot would flail its accordion-like arms and declare in its mechanized voice, “Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!” And with that alert, Will would avoid whatever hazard was coming his way.
Well, here in the beginning of 2 Thessalonians, we have a “Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!” moment. And it’s not danger from some alien. No, it’s danger from the Lord Jesus Himself.
The Holy Spirit says that Jesus, at His revelation, His second coming, will come “from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, executing vengeance on those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His might.”
Beloved, this is serious danger, eternal danger. But who exactly is in danger? Not those who trust in and follow Jesus Christ. No, they are safe and secure forevermore. No, it’s those who do not know God and don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus who are in danger.
If that’s you, hear my heart. You are in grave spiritual danger. If you die apart from Jesus Christ or if you are apart from Jesus Christ when He returns, you will face the full wrath of God and will land in Hell forevermore. You are in imminent danger.
But Jesus Christ came to live, die, and rise again to save you and the whole world from this danger. Every person needs to see their sin, hate their sin, turn from it, and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Obey the gospel, come to know God, and you will be saved from this danger.
If you’ve already done that, then amen! You are safe. But if you haven’t, danger, my friend, danger! Turn to Christ to be saved before it’s everlastingly too late.
Change begins in you!
