Paul asks this question of reflection in Romans 8:31: “What then shall we say to these things?” What is “these things” referring to? He’s referring to the grace-filled, hope-building, joy-inducing realities of the Golden Chain of Redemption that I explained in our last episode.
There are 5 links to that chain. If you are in Christ, you have been foreknown, predestined, called, justified, and will be glorified. Those 5 realities represent all that God has done and is doing to save you.
And in light of these things, Paul asks, “What then shall we say to this Golden Chain of Redemption?” To answer his question, he asks and answers 6 rhetorical questions. We’ll focus on the first one, which is this: “if God is for us, who can be against us?”
Beloved, if you are in Christ, there is no doubt that God is for you. He has fixed His love on you, moved Heaven and earth to save you, sent Jesus to live, die, and rise again to redeem you, made an everlasting covenant with you, adopted you into His family, and will take you to live with Him always. There is no doubt about it, God is for you.
And if God is for you, who can be against? The short answer is nobody. Nobody can ultimately be against you. God almighty is on your side, and nobody can defeat Him. Nobody can snatch you out of His hand. Nobody will be close the door that God has opened for you. Beloved, if you are in Christ, God is for you, and nobody can ultimately be against you!
May you live in the hope of this great truth!
Change begins in you!
