Passing the Baton

Is the faith that you have a trophy or a baton?
Apostle Paul writes to Pastor Timothy in 2 Timothy 2: “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
And there is your answer. Faith was never meant to end with us. It’s a baton, not a trophy.
I think of the men who ran their leg well and handed it to me. Pastor Joe Maldonado showed me ministry is relational — people before programs. Pastor Brandon Porter gave me a love for doctrine — truth that anchors the soul. Melvin Felts taught me to cry out to God — prayer as a lifestyle, not formality. Of course, there are those men also who have ministered to me from a distance through their writing and public preaching ministries — Adrian Rogers, John Piper, RC Sproul, John MacArthur. And there are many local laypeople who faithfully poured into me, asking nothing back.
None of them kept it to themselves. And neither can I. And neither can you.
Beloved, somewhere, a Timothy is watching you. Someone needs exactly what was given to you. They are looking for the baton. Will you faithfully pass it on, one generation to the next?
Change begins in you!
