Abram had finally arrived to land God showed him, but he and his nephew so quickly became blessed in Genesis 13 that they had go separate ways. The land where they were couldn’t sustain them both. And so, Abram broke the news to him, but softened the blow by letting Lot choose his land first.
Lot lifted his eyes and saw the whole plain of the Jordan—lush, well-watered, like the garden of Eden. So he chose it for himself. It made perfect sense. Any financial advisor would approve. It was the smart move.
But Lot chose with his eyes, not his faith.
Meanwhile, Abram took what was left—the less impressive land, the harder path. Yet after Lot departed, God spoke to Abram with an incredible promise: everything he could see would belong to his descendants forever.
Here’s the contrast: Lot chose what looked best. Abram chose what honored God.
We face this same choice constantly. The job with the bigger salary but questionable ethics. The relationship that feels right but pulls us from God’s best. The shortcut that compromises our integrity. The life that looks impressive on social media but feels empty in private.
Faith doesn’t always choose what glitters. Sometimes it chooses the narrow road, the humble option, the path that doesn’t make sense on a spreadsheet.
Lot’s choice led him toward Sodom—a decision that would cost him dearly. Abram’s choice led him deeper into God’s promise and presence.
What choice are you facing today? The one that looks best or the one that honors God? They’re not always the same.
Faith sees beyond the immediate landscape. It trusts that God’s blessings aren’t found in what we grab for ourselves, but in what we receive from His hand.
Change begins in you!
