CONNECT people to Christ and POUR into their lives His teaching so they'll OVERFLOW for the glory of God

Holy Spirit, You Are Welcome Here

One of my new favorites in our worship song list at South Campus is simply titled “Holy Spirit.”  It’s uncomplicated lyrically and musically but is powerful as it directly addresses the Holy Spirit in the chorus:

Holy Spirit, you are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, Lord, is what our hearts long for
To become overcome by Your presence, Lord
I’m so thankful for the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life!  You should be as well.  However, with our reaction to the excesses of Pentecostalism coupled to our devout and right love for the Bible, we as Baptists can downplay the roll of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  This reality is perhaps unintentional, but either way, it is to our detriment.
On Sunday, May 15th, the church worldwide will celebrate and remember the pouring out of the Holy Spirit, which we know as Pentecost Sunday.  Christian Pentecost is observed 7 weeks or 50 days after Easter Sunday.  At the first Christian Pentecost, God poured out the Holy Spirit in a new way on the early church like a mighty wind and flaming fire and continues to bless us today through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Every Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and here are six ministries of the Holy Spirit in our lives that we should praise God for:

1.  The Holy Spirit empowers us (1 Corinthians 12:4-7)
2.  The Holy Spirit comforts us (John 14:15-17)
3.  The Holy Spirit teaches us (John 14:26)
4.  The Holy Spirit guides us (Galatians 5:16-25)
5.  The Holy Spirit purifies us (Romans 8:12-13)
6.  The Holy Spirit unifies us (Philippians 2:1-2)

There are more ministries that could be listed, but I pray that this month you would focus on these six ministries of the Holy Spirit.  What a month it will be!

Holy Spirit, you are more than welcome here.  We beg You to be here and manifest Your presence and power in our lives for the glory of God!
