A Stained Glass Baby Book: Peace

Today we continue our season of Advent and light the second candle, the Candle of Peace.  Our Advent theme this year is “A Stained Glass Baby Book.”  Many of our mothers kept a baby book with details and highlights from our first few years of life.  In our Advent season, we will walk through some of the details and highlights of the most glorious baby ever born.

Where were you born?  Every mama records that in their baby book.  It’s an important piece of information that we share with people throughout our lives.  Where we’re from gives us a sense of identity and connectedness.

Where was Jesus born?  Scripture tells us this in Luke 2:1-6:

1 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.

Jesus, our Savior and Lord, was born in the city of Bethlehem.  And what’s amazing is that God foretold through prophet Micah the exact city where the Messiah Christ would be born over 700 years before it actually happened.

Micah 5:2, But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

This baby born in Bethlehem in our Savior, our King, and our peace.  From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!
